It's About Time!
This has been a long time coming, too long. It feels like this book has been percolating in my head for ages, but it's finally time. I'll skip naming the many failed attempts I've made at this project and skip to the part when I can finally announce my first publication, Ritual and Ruin.
This book tells the story of my migrant life through a collection of my early poetry and digital photography. Explaining my childhood geography isn't quite as simply as saying I'm a Jamaican-born-Canadian but it is pretty simple to say that after my many moves, I'm somewhat stuck. I suspect this is what most migrant experiences sound like, a mix of home, the new nation and something that just doesn't quite fit. This book tells the story of how I took the rituals I forged back in Jamaica, and ruined them to create who I am now.
While it gives me so much joy holding the book in my hands and flipping through the pages, I believe art is made for sharing and I'm so ready to share. I’m going to miss the face to face interactions I crave from art but I’ll take it however I can get it, so feel free to reach out to me on social media. I just hope a few of you prove me right in thinking that once you read my book, you'll recommend it.
Ritual and Ruin will be on sale Nov 20, 2020 and I'm going to open my online store for pre-orders in a hot minute so watch this space!
